A 14-year-old boy in Cheyenne, Wyoming, has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the March 7 shooting death of his mother, 41-year-old Theresa McIntosh, after an argument over a stolen tablet.
Initially reported as a suicide, the case was reclassified after investigators found no contact wound typical of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
The teen admitted to stealing a Taurus 9mm handgun a week earlier and having prior thoughts of killing his mother during conflicts.
He was taken into custody, and the only other person at the home was his father, who heard a gunshot while wearing noise-canceling headphones.
McIntosh was rushed to a hospital in Colorado, where she died.
The case remains under investigation.
