Two Indian women arrested in 2026 after nearly a decade in hiding for the 2016 murder and robbery of an elderly woman in Kerala.
Two women from New Delhi, Parveen Banu, 55, and her daughter Sakkeena Fathima, 32, were arrested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, in March 2026, nearly 10 years after allegedly murdering and robbing 60-year-old Meradan Kunjamina in Kannur, Kerala.
The suspects, who posed as textile traders, lured the elderly woman to their home on April 30, 2016, stabbing her multiple times and stealing jewelry and cash.
They evaded capture for nearly a decade using fake documents, discarded phones, and frequent relocations across multiple Indian states, aided by fluency in several languages.
The case, initially handled by Irikkur police, was transferred to the Kerala Crime Branch in 2024 due to interstate elements.
A joint operation led to their arrest, and they were produced before a judicial magistrate in Kannur, where they remain in custody as the investigation continues.
