The Income Tax Department has told taxpayers to ignore recent emails from its Advance Tax e-Campaign for Assessment Year 2026-27 due to inaccurate information about "significant transactions."
The department acknowledged errors in the messages, apologized for the confusion, and confirmed it is fixing the issue with its service provider.
The emails were meant as reminders to review financial records for advance tax compliance, not formal notices.
Taxpayers are advised to verify their data via the e-Campaign tab on the official e-Filing portal.
The move follows a rise in direct tax collections, which reached Rs 18.37 lakh crore between April 1 and January 11, 2025–26, up 8.82% from the previous year.
