New Hanover County will vote on selling the Bryan Tract to a land trust for $3 million to preserve it as a nature park.
New Hanover County commissioners are set to vote on selling the 60-acre Bryan Tract property on Independence Boulevard to the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust for $3 million.
The land, acquired by the county in 2025 for $3.86 million, was willed by Flossie Bryan for public greenspace.
The trust plans to convert it into a nature preserve with trails, restored longleaf pine ecosystems, pollinator gardens, and an educational facility.
County staff support the sale, saying it aligns with Bryan’s intent, ensures long-term conservation, and avoids management costs.
The agreement requires a 10-day public notice and will be reconsidered on March 16, 2026.
