A man has been arrested in Omaha in connection with the murder of 69-year-old Deacon John Zak, a longtime parishioner and servant at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, where he served for over 25 years.
Police found Zak’s body on March 11 following a missing persons report at a home near 36th and Cass streets.
The suspect, Martin Zak, 36, was taken into custody the next day after a vehicle pursuit involving a blue Mazda SUV.
He faces charges including criminal homicide, felony theft, and fleeing police.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The Archdiocese of Omaha and St. Peter’s Church expressed sorrow, honoring Zak’s dedication to youth programs, catechism, and foster care.
