Maersk Viridis, a new Jones Act-compliant wind turbine installer, launches in 2026 to support New York’s Empire Wind project.
Maersk Offshore Wind has named its new wind turbine installation vessel, Maersk Viridis, in a ceremony marking the launch of its first such vessel.
Built by Seatrium, the 40,000-tonne ship, designed for turbines over 15 megawatts, features a 1,900-tonne crane with 180-meter hook height and advanced stabilizing technology for rough seas.
The vessel, named for the Latin word "green," is Jones Act-compliant and will sail to the U.S. in March 2026 to support Equinor’s Empire Wind project off New York, helping install turbines expected to power about 500,000 homes.
Construction was completed without lost-time injuries and met international standards.
