Louisiana schools may get $30 million more next fiscal year to cover rising mandated costs like health insurance and retirement, the first increase since 2008, despite a projected drop of 12,000 to 13,000 students that would cut overall funding by $42 million.
Superintendent Cade Brumley recommended the boost to address fixed expenses under a per-pupil funding model unchanged since 2019, with base funding at $4,015 per student.
