Kansas State hires Belmont's Casey Alexander as new men’s basketball coach after firing Jerome Tang.
Kansas State has hired Casey Alexander, the head coach at Belmont, as its new men’s basketball coach, replacing Jerome Tang, who was fired in February after the team’s 12-20 season and early exit from the Big 12 Tournament.
Alexander, 53, led Belmont to a 26-6 record and the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference title, compiling a 166-60 record in seven seasons there and a 303-180 career mark across 15 years at Stetson, Lipscomb, and Belmont.
He agreed to a five-year contract worth $3.3 million in 2026-27, with annual $50,000 raises increasing it to $3.5 million by 2030-31.
Athletic director Gene Taylor cited Alexander’s national reputation as a talent evaluator and offensive strategist, emphasizing his success in building winning programs and developing players.
The hiring marks a major transition for Kansas State, which seeks to rebuild its basketball program after three consecutive seasons without an NCAA Tournament appearance.
