Ireland spends €480K on hairdressing training for women inmates, starting March 13, 2026, to boost rehabilitation and job prospects.
The Irish Prison Service will spend €480,000 on a hairdressing training program at Dóchas women’s prison, launching on March 13, 2026.
The program will offer four 10-week courses annually, training up to 28 female inmates in shampooing, styling, coloring, and career skills, leading to a City and Guilds accredited certificate.
Training runs Monday to Friday with weekly practical sessions, and contractors must have at least four years of commercial experience.
The initiative aims to improve post-release employment and rehabilitation amid ongoing overcrowding at the facility, which holds 335 inmates at 149% capacity.
