An Indian former Ghanaian company manager was sentenced to five years in prison for forging $191,900 and GH¢1.9 million in counterfeit currency.
An Accra Circuit Court sentenced Shubham Sharma, an Indian former manager of a Ghanaian company, to five years in prison for possessing counterfeit Ghana cedis and U.S. dollars worth GH¢1.9 million and US$191,900.
The court found he replaced genuine company cash with forged notes, including breaking into his employer’s safe while the CEO was abroad.
The Bank of Ghana confirmed the currency was fake, and Sharma admitted to storing the counterfeit bills in the office.
Sentences for the two offenses run concurrently, and he must be deported after serving his term.
