Himachal Pradesh's budget prioritizes self-reliance and welfare despite losing a key grant, citing ecological value and fairer hydropower royalties.
Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the state's upcoming budget, to be presented on March 21, 2026, will prioritize financial self-reliance and maintain social welfare, government salaries, and pensions despite losing the Revenue Deficit Grant.
The state faces an estimated annual revenue shortfall of ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 crore due to the grant’s discontinuation.
Sukhu highlighted the state’s ecological value, worth over ₹90,000 crore annually, and criticized low hydropower royalties—just 12%—from central projects, suggesting 50% royalties could eliminate the need for the grant.
He dismissed claims by Punjab officials about taxing vehicles as false, noted Himachal had already implemented the Old Pension Scheme, and said LPG supply issues are under control and improving.
The government defended excluding the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau from the Right to Information Act as legal, while declining to comment on Haryana’s Rajya Sabha election.
El presupuesto de Himachal Pradesh prioriza la autosuficiencia y el bienestar a pesar de perder una subvención clave, citando el valor ecológico y las regalías más justas de la energía hidráulica.
