flag Former Nigerian footballer Henry Nwosu, key to 1980 Africa Cup win and 1980 Olympics goal, dies at 62.

Former Nigeria national team midfielder Henry Nwosu, 62, has died at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after five days in intensive care. A key player in Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, he was the youngest member at 20 and scored the nation’s only goal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Nwosu earned 80 caps between 1980 and 1991, played in Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon, and later coached the Super Eagles at the 2002 World Cup and Nigeria’s U-17 team. His passing was confirmed by former teammate Olusegun Odegbami, who mourned the loss of a pioneering figure in Nigerian football.
