Flipkart’s ₹1 milk promotion sparks backlash from Karnataka dairy union, which claims it harms farmers and distorts the market.
Flipkart’s Rs 1 per liter milk promotion has drawn criticism from Karnataka’s Bangalore Milk Union, which claims the campaign harms farmers and threatens cooperative dairy systems.
The union alleges the scheme, backed by investor funds, has caused a 40,000–50,000 liter daily drop in sales and questions the milk’s sourcing and quality, suspecting use of milk powder.
With about 14.5 lakh liters sold, the union filed a complaint with India’s Competition Commission of India and urged Prime Minister Modi to intervene, stressing that farmers are paid Rs 38–40 per liter.
Flipkart says prices are set by sellers and that all partners receive full agreed payments.
