President Emmerson Mnangagwa reaffirmed the importance of education in Zimbabwe’s development, highlighting the ED-UNZA scholarship program launched in 2019 to support talented students from Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Speaking at a 2026 Harare fundraising dinner, he emphasized expanding access to higher education in medicine, science, and technology, citing his own academic ties to the University of Zambia.
The program, now supporting 90 students across 13 universities with full funding, includes academic exchanges and aims to grow to 100 annual beneficiaries.
The event raised $2.5 million, with donations including personal items and property, helping the trust move toward a $10–15 million reserve.
