Mykel Elliott, 18, of Salisbury, was sentenced on March 12, 2026, to life in prison plus 60 years for his role in a 2023 gang-related shooting at a downtown Salisbury restaurant.
The attack, which killed 14-year-old Xavier Cordei Maddox and injured seven others, followed a social media dispute.
Elliott was convicted on multiple charges including first-degree murder and gang participation.
Two other individuals were previously sentenced: Cashmir Holbrook pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received life with 40 years suspended, and Tamika Elliott was sentenced to five years for being an accessory.
Prosecutors called the sentence a message against gang violence and urged legislative changes to strengthen prosecutions.
