Mina Stoddart-Stones, a 26-year-old from Bridgwater, has been recognized as one of only nine people in the UK with the extremely rare U-negative and N-negative blood type, classified as RO, which is vital for patients of Black African or Caribbean descent.
Her blood, crucial for treating sickle cell disease, preventing pregnancy complications, and supporting emergency care, is frozen and stored for up to 30 years by NHS Blood and Transplant.
She began donating to give back to the NHS, which supported her family during illness and her father’s cancer treatment.
Her donations have helped patients in the UK and Portugal, and she is part of a national rare donor panel.
