A Utah Lyft driver faces felony kidnapping charges after a teen jumped from his moving car following a false ride cancellation.
A 44-year-old Lyft driver in South Jordan, Utah, faces a second-degree felony kidnapping charge after a 15-year-old girl jumped from his moving vehicle on February 7, 2026, to escape.
The teen was picked up for a ride from West Jordan to Salt Lake City but was driven in the opposite direction after the driver, Victor Manuel Montilla, canceled the ride through the app and falsely claimed her mother had canceled it.
The girl’s mother noticed the cancellation and told her to leave the car.
Despite repeated pleas in English and Spanish, Montilla continued driving for less than a mile before the teen jumped.
He admitted to canceling the ride while she was inside, claiming he was seeking a safe place to stop, though authorities say he passed multiple opportunities to do so.
The case remains under investigation.
