Sri Lanka has discovered its largest groundwater source in Pitabeddara, Southern Province, with a flow rate of 10,000 liters per minute—exceeding the previous record of 7,000 liters per minute in Madhu.
Found during drilling near a police station, the aquifer will supply water to Pitabeddara, Morawaka, and nearby areas to address longstanding shortages.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board plans to use the resource to improve regional water security.
