A sleeper bus fire on a new Rajasthan-Ahmedabad route killed one and injured six, likely due to an AC short circuit, reigniting safety concerns.
A private sleeper bus on a new route from Nachna, Rajasthan, to Ahmedabad caught fire late Thursday night, killing one passenger and injuring six others, officials said.
The fire, likely caused by a short circuit in the AC unit, broke out around 3:30 a.m. while passengers were asleep, spreading rapidly and filling the cabin with smoke.
Many escaped by breaking windows and jumping from the bus, but all lost personal belongings.
The victim died in a hospital in Palanpur despite treatment.
The bus, operated by Swagat Travels, had only recently started service.
Authorities are investigating, and the incident has raised safety concerns, especially regarding makeshift AC installations and lack of proper emergency exits.
The route previously saw a deadly 2025 fire that killed 29 people.
