Over 3 million displaced in Iran after U.S.-Israeli strikes, with UN warning of worsening conditions.
Following U.S.-Israeli strikes, the conflict in Iran has escalated to the point where up to 3.2 million people have been displaced. Between 600,000 and 1 million households have been forced to flee their homes, mostly from urban areas like Tehran to safer northern and rural areas. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees notes that humanitarian conditions are getting worse, particularly for vulnerable Afghan refugees, and cautions that as hostilities persist, the number may increase. In order to assess needs and guarantee humanitarian access, UNHCR is working with Iranian authorities and partners. All parties are urged to protect civilians and fulfill their international commitments.
