Kevin James Roper was arrested on 17 felony arson charges for setting multiple fires near the Georgia-North Carolina border.
Kevin James Roper, 48, of Blairsville, Georgia, was arrested on March 10 on 10 felony arson charges in North Carolina and seven in Georgia for allegedly setting multiple fires in wooded and brush areas near the state line, including along Tate Road and in the Martins Creek Community.
The joint investigation by North Carolina and Georgia Forest Services began in December 2025 after suspicious fires were reported.
Roper was taken into custody without incident, released on a $25,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on April 7.
Authorities stress that intentional fires endanger lives, property, and emergency responders, and the investigation remains ongoing.
