John Lennon’s Beatles-era piano sold for $3.25 million, setting a record for Beatles memorabilia.
John Lennon’s Broadwood upright piano, used to compose songs for the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s album, sold for $3.247 million at a Christie’s auction, setting a record for the most expensive Beatles memorabilia.
The sale was part of The Jim Irsay Collection: Hall of Fame, which also included Ringo Starr’s early drum kit and a historic drum head from the 1964 Ed Sullivan Show, selling for $2.393 million and $2.881 million respectively.
Other highlights included a Fender Mustang from Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video, which fetched $6.9 million, and David Gilmour’s “Black Strat” guitar, which sold for $14.55 million—the most ever paid for a guitar.
Christie’s called the auction a historic event.
