Geopolitical tensions in West Asia are disrupting India’s tea exports and boosting instant tea demand due to gas shortages.
The ongoing West Asia conflict is disrupting India’s tea exports, especially orthodox tea to Gulf nations, with over 40% of the country’s 280 million kg annual tea exports going to the region, according to Dinesh Bihani of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers' Association.

Bihani suggested increasing instant tea consumption from 3% to 8–10% could support domestic demand.
Meanwhile, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri confirmed India’s energy supplies remain secure despite shipping disruptions, citing diversified crude sourcing and stable domestic supplies of petroleum products, LPG, and natural gas.
