FBI investigates shooting at Old Dominion University as terrorism; suspect, a former soldier with ISIS ties, killed after attacking an ROTC class.
The FBI is investigating a shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, as a terrorism incident, identifying Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a 36-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Sierra Leone and former Army National Guard member, as the suspect.
Jalloh, who was released from prison in December 2024 after serving part of an 11-year sentence for attempting to support ISIS, targeted an ROTC class in Constant Hall, killing one person and injuring two others.
He was subdued and killed by ROTC students, an action credited by FBI Director Kash Patel with preventing further casualties.
Authorities say Jalloh had previously expressed intent to carry out a mass attack inspired by the 2009 Fort Hood shooting and had attempted to send money to ISIS and purchase weapons.
The investigation remains ongoing.
