Bangladesh and Japan resumed talks to unlock the nearly complete third terminal at Dhaka's airport, stalled by disputes over revenue and control.
Bangladesh and Japan resumed high-level talks on March 13, 2026, to resolve outstanding issues blocking the operation of the nearly complete third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The meeting, held under the new BNP-led government, focused on disagreements over revenue-sharing, operational control, and fees that have kept the terminal idle despite being over 99% finished.
Officials from both sides emphasized a mutually beneficial agreement, with Bangladesh urging the Japanese consortium to submit a revised proposal by late March.
The terminal, funded by JICA at Tk21,398 crore, is designed to handle 12–16 million additional passengers annually and 900,000 tonnes of cargo.
A second round of talks is expected by late March.
