Australia halts $38M in funding to Disaster Relief Australia over misconduct allegations, forcing it into voluntary administration.
The Australian federal government has suspended $38 million in taxpayer funding for Disaster Relief Australia (DRA), halting its disaster response operations, after internal whistleblowers alleged inflated volunteer numbers, wasteful spending, and suppression of criticism.
Despite an independent investigation finding no evidence of organizational fraud or financial misconduct, DRA entered voluntary administration, affecting 90 employees and thousands of volunteers.
The National Emergency Management Agency launched an ongoing probe, and a creditors meeting is scheduled for March 24.
DRA’s leadership said the suspension is reversible if funding is restored.
