A 70-year-old man sentenced to 27 years for historic sexual abuse of two girls, including rape, will be on the sex offenders register for life.
Philip Garrett, 70, of Burnham-on-Sea, was sentenced to 27 years in prison after pleading guilty to 19 non-recent sexual offences against two girls, including rape and indecent assault, some involving victims under 13.
The crimes, committed over a prolonged period, were reported by one victim to an adult, prompting a child protection investigation.
Both victims described lasting trauma, affecting their mental health, education, and relationships.
Garrett was placed on the sex offenders register for life, ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and issued an indefinite restraining order.
Police commended the victims’ courage and emphasized that abuse against women and girls will not be tolerated, regardless of when it occurred.
