William Ruud, former president of Marietta College, has filed a federal lawsuit alleging former dean Alexandra Perry falsely accused him of misconduct during his 2016–2023 tenure, leading to a no-contact order and anonymous reports that caused Carroll College to rescind his presidential job offer in June 2025.
Despite an independent investigation finding no misconduct, Ruud claims Perry’s actions, including fabricated claims and post-resignation targeting, damaged his reputation.
Perry was later arrested and convicted for tampering with evidence.
Ruud’s lawsuit, filed in February 2026, seeks damages for defamation, breach of contract, and other claims, with a response due from Marietta College by April 24.
