WhatsApp introduces parental-controlled accounts for kids under 13 with limited features and oversight.
WhatsApp is launching parent-managed accounts for children under 13, allowing guardians to set up and oversee their child’s account with restricted features.
The system limits use to messaging and calling, blocks access to groups, location sharing, disappearing messages, and Meta AI, and requires a parent PIN for control.
Parents can approve contacts, monitor message requests, and receive alerts for group changes, but cannot view message content due to end-to-end encryption.
Accounts must be linked to a parent’s device during setup, and the feature rolls out gradually, with parents able to delay the transition to a standard account for up to 12 months after the child turns 13.
