SEPTA will launch its New Bus Network initiative in August 2026, rolling out in phases through June 2027 to improve service frequency, reliability, and accessibility across Philadelphia and surrounding counties.
The overhaul includes adding two new crosstown routes—72 and 76—and extending or restructuring several existing lines while eliminating 18 underused or duplicated routes.
The changes aim to increase the number of routes with 15-minute or better service from eight to 29, seven days a week, with expanded midday, weekend, and late-night service on 10 routes.
The plan, developed after over 20,000 residents participated in public events, follows delays due to budget and operational challenges.
SEPTA will hold a public hearing in April and seek board approval in May, followed by a major education campaign to support the transition.
