A Queensland man was charged with people smuggling for allegedly flying two fugitives from Australia to Indonesia in Nov. 2025.
A 43-year-old Queensland aviation company owner was charged with people smuggling on March 12, 2026, over an alleged operation that transported two fugitives from New South Wales to Indonesia in November 2025.
The man, linked to a Rockhampton-based business, coordinated a series of flights using helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to move the suspects across Queensland, culminating in a "black flight" from Port Stewart with the transponder deactivated.
The fugitives, wanted for kidnapping and drug supply, were detained in Indonesia along with two pilots.
Authorities say the operation was sophisticated and costly, prompting increased surveillance along northern Australia’s coastline.
The suspect was granted bail and is due in court, facing up to 10 years in prison.
