OMV Petrom, Romania’s largest oil and gas company, has joined a consortium with Shell and Turkey’s TPAO to explore the Han Tervel block in the Bulgarian Black Sea, securing a 25% stake pending approval.
The project, covering about 4,000 km², was granted a five-year exploration license in 2025.
OMV Petrom will contribute financially and operationally, focusing on 3D seismic data analysis to assess drilling potential.
The move builds on its experience in the Black Sea, including the Neptun Deep project, and strengthens its strategic presence in Bulgaria’s offshore energy sector.
