Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has formally criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the handling of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Siliguri on March 11, 2026, citing last-minute venue changes, low turnout, and absence of senior officials as disrespectful to India’s first tribal woman president.
Majhi called the incident a breach of protocol and a blow to constitutional dignity, especially ahead of International Women’s Day, urging Banerjee to apologize.
The controversy followed President Murmu’s public expression of disappointment, prompting scrutiny from Prime Minister Modi and the Union Home Ministry over possible violations of the Blue Book protocol.
Banerjee denied fault, attributing issues to private organizers and logistical failures.
Chhattisgarh’s CMs Bhupesh Baghel and Vishnu Deo Sai also condemned the event, calling it an insult to tribal, Dalit, and women’s communities and demanding accountability.
