Nissan, Uber, and Wayve launch Tokyo robotaxi pilot in late 2026 using modified Leafs and Wayve’s tech via Uber’s app, with safety drivers present.
Nissan, Uber, and UK-based Wayve are launching a robotaxi pilot in Tokyo by late 2026 using modified Nissan Leaf vehicles with Wayve’s self-driving tech, accessible through Uber’s app.
Safety drivers will be present initially, and the service will operate under a licensed taxi partner.
This marks Uber’s first autonomous vehicle venture in Japan, following Wayve’s testing since early 2025 and plans to expand to over 10 global cities, including London later in 2026.
Nissan also plans to introduce a driver-assistance system using Wayve’s technology in Japan by fiscal year 2027.
