Middle East conflict disrupts global aid routes, worsening crises in Gaza, Sudan, Somalia, and Africa.
UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher warned on March 11, 2026, that the expanding Middle East conflict is severely disrupting global aid operations, with key air routes closed and shipping halted through the Strait of Hormuz.
These disruptions are hindering deliveries of food, medicine, and fuel to Gaza, Sudan, Somalia, and sub-Saharan Africa, increasing costs and worsening existing crises.
Fletcher described the situation as a "perfect storm," citing rising oil prices, donor funding cuts, and overstretched humanitarian systems.
He urged all parties to establish humanitarian exemptions to ensure aid can reach those in need, stressing that daily war spending could instead save millions of lives.
