At the 61st UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva on March 12, 2026, Indian activist Stephanie Branco Anjo of the Sambhali Trust highlighted grassroots programs advancing women's and girls' rights in India.
She stressed that real human rights progress is measured by daily improvements in education, safety, and economic opportunity, citing community centers that help girls return to school and women gain livelihood skills.
Anjo also referenced India’s national initiatives like the Mid-Day Meal Scheme and Poshan Aahar, which support nutrition, education, and digital inclusion.
She called for global support for civil society, investment in local solutions, and protection for human rights defenders, emphasizing that lasting change lies in individuals’ lived experiences of dignity and opportunity.
