India shipped 25 tonnes of Assam’s GI-tagged Joha rice to the UK and Italy, its first such export via APEDA.
On March 12, 2026, India exported 25 metric tonnes of GI-tagged Joha rice from Assam to the UK and Italy, marking the first such shipment facilitated by APEDA.
The aromatic rice, cultivated across 21,662 hectares in Assam and producing about 43,298 tonnes annually, was processed in Guwahati and exported by Safe Agritrade Pvt Ltd.
The move supports APEDA’s strategy to boost agri-exports, strengthen farmer-market linkages, and promote Northeast India’s premium agricultural products globally, following earlier exports to Vietnam and Middle Eastern countries.
