India mandates milk producers and vendors to register or license by March 11, 2026, to fight adulteration and boost safety.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated that all independent milk producers not part of dairy cooperatives and all milk vendors must register or obtain a license to operate, effective March 11, 2026.
The move, aimed at curbing milk adulteration and improving food safety, requires states and union territories to conduct registration drives, verify compliance, and inspect milk chillers for proper storage temperatures.
Enforcement agencies are tasked with monitoring adherence and taking action against non-compliant operators.
The directive follows earlier FSSAI orders from December 2025 requiring regular inspections and bi-monthly reporting on milk product safety.
