A Bridgeport officer shot Dyshan Best, 39, during a March 2025 chase; he died hours later, with conflicting claims over whether he had a gun and if ambulance delay affected his outcome.
According to a state investigation, Dyshan Best, 39, was legally shot by a Bridgeport police officer in March 2025 after running away with a 9 mm handgun that he had pointed at the officer, according to body camera footage.
Fourteen minutes after the shooting, the first ambulance arrived, but it was redirected to transport Officer Erin Perrotta, who was clearly upset and experiencing a mild episode of anxiety, even though she refused medical attention.
Best died at 7:41 p.m. from severe internal injuries after being transported to the hospital ten minutes later.
Whether the ambulance delay played a role in his death was not determined by the report.
Best's family contests the discovery that he had a gun, arguing that he was holding a vape pen and that prompt medical attention could have saved his life.
The Bridgeport Police Department is conducting its own investigation while Perrotta is on administrative leave for unrelated reasons.
