Alabama Senate committee passes bill to pause large solar farms, excluding TVA areas, to assess environmental and regulatory impacts.
Alabama State Senator Greg Albritton’s bill to impose a one-year moratorium on large-scale solar farm construction has passed a Senate committee, excluding areas served by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The measure, aimed at allowing time for environmental and regulatory assessments, follows local opposition to a proposed 4,500-acre solar project in Baldwin County.
The bill would grant Gulf Coast counties authority to regulate solar facilities and excludes residential solar.
Critics warn it could hinder economic growth and property rights, while supporters cite concerns over ecological impact and community input.
The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
