The Vatican is pushing for dialogue between Cuba and the U.S. to address the island’s challenges, building on past diplomatic successes.
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin says the Holy See is actively promoting dialogue on Cuba, engaging both Cuban and U.S. officials to support a negotiated solution to the island’s challenges.
He cited recent meetings, including a visit by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla to the Vatican and a prior meeting in Rome between U.S. diplomat Mike Hammer and a Vatican official.
These efforts build on the Holy See’s past role in facilitating prisoner releases and Cuba’s removal from the U.S. terrorism list.
Parolin also expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, mourned the death of Maronite priest Pierre El-Rahi, and warned of growing threats to Christian communities, reaffirming the Vatican’s commitment to peace, dialogue, and diplomacy.
