An SUV rolled 200 feet into Palo Duro Canyon on Sunday night after a tire blowout on Park Road 5 near the Big Hill area.
The driver, injured with a black eye, concussion, and broken ribs, escaped and walked to the Mack Dick Pavilion by Monday noon.
Multiple emergency agencies conducted a high-angle rescue using a rope system to retrieve the vehicle, which was towed from the canyon on March 10, 2026.
Park Road 5 was temporarily closed during the operation.
The incident remains under investigation by Texas State Park Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
