Starting in 2026, non-Hindus will be barred from entering 47 temples in Uttarakhand, including Badrinath and Kedarnath, as per a decision by the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee.
The ban, approved by committee chairman Hemant Dwivedi, takes effect ahead of the Char Dham Yatra beginning April 19.
The committee cited tradition and religious integrity as reasons, stating only followers of Sanatan Dharma will be allowed access.
The move follows similar restrictions at other sites and reflects broader efforts to preserve temple sanctity, with the state government supporting local temple committees’ autonomy.
