NYC council proposes $30/hour minimum wage by 2030, highest in U.S.
The New York City Council is set to consider a bill that would raise the city’s minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030, nearly doubling the current $17 rate.
Large employers with over 500 workers would reach $20 by 2027 and $30 by 2030, while smaller businesses would phase in the increase by 2032.
The proposal, sponsored by Council Member Sandra Nurse, aims to combat poverty and rising living costs.
If passed, it would make NYC’s minimum wage the highest in the U.S.
The bill is expected to be formally introduced soon and requires approval from the Council and the mayor.
