Namibia bans imports of cloven-hoofed animals and products from parts of Botswana over foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks.
Namibia has imposed immediate restrictions on importing cloven-hoofed animals and their products from certain areas in Botswana due to confirmed foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks.
The move, announced by Namibia’s Ministry of Agriculture, aims to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus.
The ban covers cattle, sheep, goats, and related products, including those for personal use, from affected regions in Botswana’s north and east.
However, imports from designated FMD-free zones in Botswana may proceed with a valid veterinary permit.
The decision follows reports from the World Organization for Animal Health and updated data from Botswana’s veterinary authorities on March 4.
