On March 10, 2026, the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development completed the sale of its 100% stake in NPRT Holdings Africa Limited—owner of 54.08% of Nation Media Group (NMG)—to Taarifa Ltd., a Tanzanian company led by businessman Rostam Azizi.
The transaction ends AKFED’s 66-year ownership of NMG, founded in 1959 as Taifa Leo.
Taarifa Ltd. pledged to support NMG’s digital transformation and editorial independence, with no plans to delist the company or make a takeover offer.
The deal, pending regulatory approval, marks a major shift in ownership for East Africa’s largest independent media house, which operates outlets including the Daily Nation and NTV Kenya, reaching over 62 million digital users across multiple countries.
