Lincoln police probe $2.5M no-bid contract linked to state lobbyist and governor’s push.
The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a $2.5 million no-bid emergency contract awarded in April 2024 by Nebraska’s Department of Economic Development to Global Sustainability Developers, a firm linked to a state lobbyist.
The contract, intended to boost the state’s bioeconomy, was fast-tracked at Governor Jim Pillen’s recommendation, prompting concerns from State Auditor Mike Foley about the validity of the emergency designation and lack of competitive bidding.
Foley’s office referred findings to the Attorney General’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol, which recused itself due to conflicts, leading to the LPD taking over the probe.
GSD reportedly fulfilled its obligations, and the investigation will report findings to the AG’s office.
