Joey Barton must pay £339,000 in damages to Eniola Aluko after a UK court ruled his 2024 social media posts were defamatory.
Joey Barton has been ordered to pay over £339,000 in damages and legal costs to former England footballer Eniola Aluko after a UK High Court ruled his 2024 social media posts on X were defamatory.
The court found Barton’s posts, including one that superimposed Aluko’s image onto a serial killer, formed a targeted campaign of vilification accusing her of exploiting claims of racism and bullying.
Barton, who was in police custody at the time of the hearing due to an alleged assault, admitted his conduct amounted to harassment.
The court ordered the first £100,000 plus interest paid by March 24, with a seven-day window to appeal.
Aluko, who attended the hearing, said she was relieved the case had concluded.
