Ireland’s DPP won’t charge Michael Lowry over 1995 mobile licence allegations, ending 13-year scrutiny.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has decided not to bring charges against Independent TD Michael Lowry based on findings from the 2011 Moriarty Tribunal, which alleged he helped businessman Denis O’Brien secure Ireland’s second mobile phone licence in 1995.
Lowry, who called the tribunal’s conclusions flawed and based on speculation, said the decision ends a 13-year legal and political scrutiny that damaged his reputation without recourse.
The Garda investigation concluded in 2024, and after a 15-month review, the DPP determined no prosecution would proceed for corruption, bribery, or misfeasance.
Lowry expressed gratitude to his family and constituents.
The DPP and Gardaí have not issued further comment.
El DPP de Irlanda no acusará a Michael Lowry por las acusaciones de licencias móviles de 1995, poniendo fin a un escrutinio de 13 años.
