IotaMotion gains U.S. patent for robotic cochlear implant system, aiding precise surgery for patients aged 4+.
IotaMotion, a St. Paul-based medical tech company, has received U.S. Patent No.
12,558,123, strengthening its intellectual property in robotic-assisted cochlear implant surgery.
The patent covers robotic positioning and control systems used in its FDA-cleared iotaSOFT® Insertion System, the first and only such device approved for patients aged four and older.
The technology enables precise, controlled electrode insertion to protect delicate inner ear structures, aiming to improve outcomes and expand access—fewer than 5% of the estimated 60 million eligible people worldwide currently receive implants.
The system is commercially available in the U.S. and under clinical investigation elsewhere.
